A proposal in the U.S. Senate to extend unemployment insurance benefits by up to 20 weeks in some states still would apply to beneficiaries in Wisconsin, the state Department of Workforce Development said Wednesday.
The measure would offer the longest extensions to states that have seasonally adjusted unemployment rates of 8.5% or higher.
Even though Wisconsin’s seasonally adjusted rate dipped to 8.3% last month from 8.8% in August, the state explained, extensions would be offered based on a rolling three-month average rate, which right now is 8.7% for Wisconsin.
