Exit poll results in today’s New Jersey and Virginia governor’s races will cover a banquet of political issues: views of Barack Obama’s job performance, economic anxiety, the role of government and concerns from taxes to health care andore.
In New Jersey, the exit poll may help shed light on the impact of third-party candidate Christopher Daggett. In Virginia, it’ll provide a look at how many 2008 Obama voters show up, what they think of him now – and where they go in the statewide contests at hand.
Initial, preliminary exit poll results on basic issues should be available in a few hours, after 5 p.m. ABC News does not report vote-preference data from exit polls until polls in a state have closed – 7 p.m. in Virginia, 8 p.m. in New Jersey.
Voter turnout’s likely to be far below its 2008 levels, complicating comparisons and adding a layer of complexity in discerning the broader meaning of these races.
